Inducing narrative tension in the viewer through suspense, surprise, and curiosity

Research into narrative tension is of interest in terms the progress knowledge processes and mechanisms by which stories are received enjoyed. We have created four versions an audiovisual story with three different structures fiction (suspense, surprise, curiosity) one non-fiction. investigated effects these groups subjects (N=94). The results show that organization stories, depending on their suspense, or curiosity, induces tension, while non-fictional story, cognitive affective another kind. Narrative appears during progression. It manifested cognitive-affective responses include anticipations, diagnoses, retrospections, emotions. In curiosity plays a triggering organizing role suspense surprise. emotions cognitions result from plot construction underpin experience enjoyment.
